Quantity methodology

What the list adds—and what it doesn’t.

Scaling servings

Each ingredient quantity is multiplied by new servings divided by original servings. Fractions such as 1/2 and 1 1/2 are accepted. Results use a familiar fraction when a close match exists; otherwise they show up to two decimals.

Combining ingredients

The grocery list adds ingredients with the same written name and compatible unit. It does not convert cups to grams or combine unlike units. This avoids guessing the density of an ingredient.

Check the result

Recipe text can be inconsistent. Lines without a recognized starting quantity are flagged and must be corrected before the recipe can be added to the week. Review your quantities before shopping.
